The Memory of Running
Do you see the audio book to the left? See it? I have to be honest, this is something I’ve already read (or listened to rather), but wanted to make sure you’ve heard about it. Aside from being one of the best books I’ve come across this year, it is also special in that one of my favorite authors, Stephen King, wrote an entire column in Entertainment Weekly, recommending it to readers by calling it the “best book you can’t read” (considering it only first came out in audio book format.) If you know me by now, if he recommended it, then I was going to buy it. No second thoughts.
The book’s central character, Smithy Ide, is so fascinating and aggravating at the same time. You cheer him on in his own little “epic” struggles, but get frustrated with his bone-headed foibles. I actually listened to it twice, enjoying more the second time.
Also, news has it that this is book is being put to film, sometime in 2006. I can’t wait to see how bad they mangle it!
Have you read/listened to this book yet? Did you like it?

I really enjoyed The Memory of Running. The premise is so straightforward but has so much to offer. I was actually very sad when the book came to an end.
